Federal Government guarantees tax exemption for imported medicines

28 / October / 2024

Provisional Measure (MP) extends benefit until 2025

On Friday (25), the Federal Government published a new Provisional Measure that ensures the continuation of the tax exemption on imported medicines until March 31, 2025. MP 1,271/2024 establishes that the Import Tax rate on medicines purchased on digital platforms or websites be reduced to 0%, with a limit of up to US$ 10,000 per individual for personal use.

The measure aims to keep the cost of these imported medicines more affordable, ensuring that the Import Tax does not burden patients who need specialized treatments and essential health products. This government decision reinforces the commitment to the right to health and meets the demands of patient associations and medical professionals, who had previously raised doubts about the application of Law 14,902/2024.

The new MP replaces the previous one (MP 1,236/2024), adjusting the tax exemption criteria and providing greater clarity and security to consumers who depend on imported medicines.
